KisanGyan (“we”, “us”, “the app”) is a voice-first agricultural advisory app that helps Indian farmers with crop, weather, soil, market (mandi) and government-scheme guidance through our assistant, Mitra. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to give you useful, local advice.
1. Information we collect
| Category | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account & identity | Mobile number, name, preferred language | To sign you in and personalise Mitra in your language |
| Farm & location | Village pincode, farm GPS location, land area, soil details | To give district-accurate weather, crop, soil and mandi advice |
| Farming activity | Crops planted, cultivation plans, farm-diary entries, your questions to Mitra, uploaded crop/soil photos | To provide diagnosis, plans and continuity (“you mentioned last week…”) |
| Device & usage | App version, device model, push token, crash/diagnostic data | To deliver notifications, fix bugs and keep the app reliable |
We do not ask for Aadhaar, bank account numbers, or financial account credentials in the app. Where the app helps estimate a Kisan Credit Card limit, it uses only the crop and land area you enter and is clearly marked as an indicative estimate.
2. How we use your information
- To provide localised farming advice, weather, mandi prices, soil guidance and scheme information.
- To diagnose crop issues from photos you choose to upload.
- To send you helpful, timely notifications (e.g. weather alerts, scheme deadlines, crop-cycle tasks).
- To verify your phone number at sign-in.
- To improve the accuracy and quality of Mitra’s answers.
3. Service providers we use
We share the minimum data needed with trusted processors who act on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — phone-number sign-in (OTP), push notifications, and crash diagnostics.
- Cloud hosting (AWS, Mumbai region) — secure storage of your account and farm data within India.
- AI language provider (Google Gemini) — to generate Mitra’s replies. Your question text (and relevant farm context) is processed to produce an answer; it is not used to advertise to you.
- Weather & data sources — weather providers and public government datasets used to inform advice. Government datasets are read-only references; we do not send your personal data to them.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
4. Data storage and security
Your data is stored on managed servers in India (AWS Mumbai). We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
5. Data retention
We keep your account and farm data for as long as your account is active so Mitra can provide continuity across seasons. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time (see “Your choices”).
6. Your choices & rights
- Access / correction: you can update your farm details, language and location in the app.
- Deletion: request deletion of your account and data any time — see Delete your account.
- Notifications: you can turn off push notifications in your device settings.
- Location: you can decline GPS; the app will fall back to your pincode for regional advice.
7. Children
KisanGyan is intended for farmers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the updated version here and revise the “Last updated” date above.
